The environment, in all its forms, continually plays a vital role in the lives of societies and individuals. At the same time, human beings have shaped the environment as well, sometimes in constructive and beneficial ways, and at other times in destructive and harmful ones. Yet what remains undeniable is the close and enduring relationship between humans and the environment. This relationship is most clearly and profoundly reflected in literature, especially poetry, which is among humanity’s most delicate and expressive means of conveying its inner world, concerns, and experiences. Iraqi poetry, in particular, has long been connected to the environment and continues to engage with it to this day.

This study aims to explore the natural environment in the poetic experience of the Iraqi poet Munther Abdul-Hurr, adopting a descriptive-analytical approach alongside insights derived from ecocritical theory, which regards the environment as a fundamental influence on human beings, especially poets. Accordingly, the present research seeks to examine the manifestations of this influence in Abdul-Hurr poetic work.

After closely examining the poet’s rich literary output, the study reached an important conclusion: Abdul-Hurr poetry embodies a deep and existential connection between poetry and the natural environment on the one hand, and between human beings and the environment on the other. The natural environment emerges as an intrinsic component of the poet’s experience, making it impossible to separate them.
