The study of place in poetry is considered one of the fundamental critical approaches for revealing the artistic vision and existential stance of the creator. Within this framework, our research, titled "Representations of Place and Its Connotations in the Poetry of Ali Al-Imara," aims to uncover the aesthetic and symbolic mechanisms through which place operates in the poetic text of the contemporary Iraqi poet, Ali Al-Imara. It highlights how place transforms from being merely a framework containing events into an active element in shaping the poet's vision concerning issues of the self, the homeland, and destiny. The research seeks to trace the manifestations of place as an intensive semantic fabric bearing the concerns of contemporary humanity in a turbulent reality. The research problem is evident in revealing how place becomes an expressive medium for the existential and social crisis. This is achieved by analyzing the connotations of open places (such as the land, the city, streets, and the desert), which oscillate between the vastness of dreams and the expanse of hope, and the widening scope of devastation and alienation; and closed places (such as the grave, the cemetery, and the well), which symbolize isolation, death, anxiety, and remorse. Special focus is given to national places (such as the homeland, Iraq, Baghdad, Basra, and Mosul), which embody the image of the wounded homeland in its stark contradiction between its historical glory and its crisis-ridden reality, thereby creating a poetic discourse that expresses an identity torn between deep love for the homeland and profound pain from its wounds.
