Translation plays a vital role in fostering communication and cultural exchange in today’s globalized world. Theoretical approaches to translation offer structured methods that enhance both the accuracy and depth of translated texts, thereby promoting intercultural understanding. This study analyzes the Arabic translation of the novel "Gavkhuni" through the lens of Carmen Garcés’ theory, which encompasses multiple linguistic levels. However, the research specifically focuses on the semantic and lexical levels, as these are crucial for conveying meaning and maintaining the original text’s essence. By concentrating on these aspects, the study provides a more thorough and precise assessment of translation quality than would be possible through a broader, less detailed approach. The research employs a descriptive-analytical method to objectively evaluate the translation’s strengths and weaknesses and its fidelity to the source text. The analysis of Ghassan Hamdan’s translation of "Gavkhuni" demonstrated his use of various strategies to overcome artistic, cultural, and linguistic challenges. Most notably, he employed explanation and expansion through footnotes, and utilized cultural equivalence to convey meaning to the Arabic reader. Syntactic expansion was also evident in enhancing the clarity of the text, while reduction sometimes led to loss or distortion of meaning. The general-to-specific technique appeared only in limited cases, and ambiguity arose in a few instances due to omission or lack of precision. Overall, the translation was characterized by an acceptable balance between fidelity and cultural-linguistic clarity, in accordance with the semantic and lexical techniques of Garcés’ model.
