The artistic image was a focal point of interest and analysis by the ancients, where it was deeply studied by critics such as Abd al-Qahir al-Jurjani and Al-Jahiz. However, in the context of modern criticism, it surfaced under various names in the late nineteenth century, such as imagery in poetry, or the literary image. Through the image, the creator and the recipient exchange their ideas and senses, where its elements are manifested through simile, metaphor, and metonymy. The artistic image is a gem that forms an integral part of the crafting of poetry, which must possess delicacy, sincerity, and beauty, and be part of the stance taken by the poet based on his experiences. Sofyan ibn Mus'ab al-Abdi al-Kufi, a poet of the second Hijri century and one of the companions of Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq, received narrations from the Imam about the virtues of Ahl al-Bayt, which he then composed into artistic poems. This led the Imam to oblige his Shia to teach their children his poetry. Therefore, we preferred to reveal the brilliance of this poet, relying on the descriptive-analytical method with the aim of investigating the artistic images used in his creativity. In conclusion, the research found that the poet used various types of sensory and rhetorical images in his poetry, where the sensory images held a greater place, and that he relied heavily on the sensory images and their effects in conveying his ideas to the reader. Nonetheless, the poet did not neglect the use of rhetorical images to achieve his poetic goals, through simile, metaphor, and metonymy.
