Dualities in modern poetic texts embody for the reader mental image of the encounters that are rampant in the society in which the poet lives. These opposing dichotomies leave a deep impact on the poet's psyche, which leads to drawing modern spaces and beautiful creative images that contribute to enriching the poet's creative ability and his ability to express his ideas and beliefs. The Iraqi Yahya Al- Samawy found intense emotional energies in these dichotomies and contrasts, as he was subjected to harassment and persecution inside his country, then alienation and anguish in his decades-long exile. This study, according to the descriptive-analytical approach, attempts to address the types of dichotomies in Al-Samawy's poetry. It aims to clarify the aesthetic and semantic aspects underlying the use of these dichotomies. In the study, we reached several results, that The poet Yahya Al- Samawy used a number of opposing dichotomies to express his social and political ideas in order to arouse the attention of the recipient and to deepen the intellectual construction and they include the duality of life and death, the duality of body and soul, the duality of past and future time and the duality of peace and war.
