The natural phenomenon of the moon is one of the natural phenomena most understood by the contemporary Iraqi poet, Muhammad Mahdi Al-Jawahiri, and it had a great impact on his thought and poetry, over the days and events. He depicted the moon in different forms that reflect the extent of the presence and importance of this natural phenomenon to him. From this standpoint, this research aims to shed light on the poetry of the moon and its various connotations in Al-Jawahiri’s poetry through the literary impact that the image of the moon left in his poetry. Therefore, the importance of the research comes in clarifying one of the areas of this great poetic influence, and knowing its intellectual and literary implications. As for the research methodology, we worked according to the descriptive, analytical, inductive method. One of the most important results reached was that the moon was not only a cosmic phenomenon for the poet, but rather it is a poetic image similar to other images in poetry, and that the image of the moon is one of the literary and intellectual sources that the poet employed, and it clearly indicates the poet’s literary vision and culture
