Every literary work has a regular semantic structure made of a set of linguistic signs. Literary semiotics is a criticizing method that explores the world inside the text and analyzes the process of creating a literary work and the effect of signs on its formation. One of the accurate models of semiotics is the three-dimensional model of the sign in Peirce's theory, which is considered a suitable tool for the analysis of literary works, especially poetry. It criticizes the relationship between the three components of the sign; representation, subject and interpretation and also analyzes its role in the creation of poetic themes. Fahad Al-Awda, a Kuwaiti poet, is one of the poets of modernism, whose romantic themes are the most frequent themes in his poetry. He creates the themes of his poems with linguistic signs, and expresses his intentions with covered language. This article tries to criticize the signs related to the concept of love based on Pierce model and analyze the effect of the relationship between the three components in the process of forming them based on the axis of coexistence and substitution of words. The findings of the research indicate that the symbols related to love in Fahad Al-Awda's poems are created in the axis of coexistence through the arrangement of words together in the text, and in the axis of substitution, the words are removed from the standard language by substituting virtual and secondary meanings instead of their real meaning and become linguistic signs. These signs are a coherent whole formed by the interaction between representation, subject and interpretation.
