Semiotics is one of the sciences that are employed to analyze texts and clarify connotations by removing the mask from the faces of signs or linguistic symbols.  Linguistic semiotics can also be considered as a tool for exploring the underlying structures of meanings.  In view of the importance of investigating the meanings and the necessity of studying them to reveal their connotations hidden in the core of the literary texts, this research is devoted to the semiotics of the place in the novel "Let the hedgehog turn on its back" by Khudair Falih al-Zaidi, a writer and novelist born in Baghdad in 1958 AD.  In many of his novels, he cared about the place and the psychology of the characters. He also cared about the place in his novels, especially his aforementioned novel, as he dealt with issues related to his homeland and what befell him as a result of the coups and the deteriorating political and social conditions.  This article was divided into two axis: the theoretical axis and the applied axis, according to the descriptive and analytical approach.  In the beginning, it dealt with the definition of semiotics and place and their importance, then in the applied section, the article studied the place and revealed its various social, political and psychological connotations according to Perec's approach to semiotics, which includes: the symbol, the indicator, and the icon.  In the end, the article reached the following conclusions: The place played an important role in the novel Let the hedgehog, and it was not just a wooden decoration for the rest of the narrative elements of the novel to play on, but it contained multiple psychological, social, and political meanings.  The place was divided according to its influence from the characters of the novel into different types, including: geographical, metaphorical, geometric, hostile place, open place, closed place, place of transition, place of residence, memory place, and social place.
